Running Out of Eden

A series of sculptures, ’Running Out of Eden’, is my personal response to some of the environmental challenges we face. As heatwaves, wildfires and other extreme weather patterns increase across the globe, there is an undeniable need for change. The series explores the ideas of transformation and optimism that we will rise to the challenges as we navigate an unknown future.

This latest series references our torrid Earth with dry, organic textures and an ashy aesthetic. Winged forms rise from the ashes of themselves, phoenix-like, as the seed of hope and new life unfurls from within. Forms and textures evoke a sense of familiarity inviting a dialogue around the work but also allowing space for the viewer to question their own responses on a personal level. As we stand on the precipice of change I aim to convey the beauty of our wounded Earth, as well as its strength and resilience in the face of human interference.
