Artists Statement

Modern culture continues to inspire my work - our digitised society that is media and technology led.
The ‘quills’ in many of my pieces represent a bar-code which have colour or texture added in a DNA read-out style pattern to highlight our relationship with technology and science.
The work of Mark Rothko and Barnett Newman have inspired the painting element of my work. The Colour Field artists believed one should be immersed in the painting to fully appreciate it. My work plays on the dichotomy of being fully immersed in a subject and the speed of modern life. Can the two be married?
Each piece is my individual response to varying ideas on the theme of how dependant we are becoming on technology and how it is shaping the society we are to become.
Although the ideas are key to the process of creating these works, colour and texture are used to enhance the visual impact.
